Sentinel by Novartis is the only monthly oral preventive that guards against heartworms and fleas as well as adult roundworms, adult hookworms and whipworms. Sentinel for dogs does not kill adult fleas so a product like CapStar can be used for a complete flea control program. This once-a-month prescription medication prevents heartworm disease and flea populations in dogs and puppies. Sentinel kills the immature form of the heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis). It also control adult hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum), and removes and controls roundworms (ascarids - Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina) and whipworms (Trichuris vulpis).
